Mutton Curry Recipe – A Rich and Flavorful Indian Dish

Mutton Curry is a hearty and flavorful dish made with tender mutton pieces cooked in a spicy, aromatic gravy. It’s perfect when paired with naan, roti, or rice

  • Onion (finely chopped): 2 large

  • Tomatoes (chopped): 3 medium

  • Green chilies: 2 (slit)

  • Ginger-garlic paste: 1 tbsp

  • Red chili powder: 1 tsp

  • Coriander powder: 1 tsp

  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp

  • Garam masala: 1 tsp

  • Cumin seeds: 1 tsp

  • Salt: to taste

  • Water: 1-1.5 cups (adjust as needed)

  • Fresh coriander leaves: for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Marinate the Mutton

  1. In a large bowl, mix yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, lemon juice, and salt.

  2. Add the mutton pieces and coat them well.

  3. Cover and marinate for at least 1-2 hours, or overnight for best results

 

Prepare the Curry Gravy

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a large pot. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.

  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies, and sauté for another minute.

  4. Stir in chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.

  5. Add red chili powder,

  6. coriander powder, turmeric, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the masala is well-cooked and the oil begins to separate.

  1. Add the marinated mutton to the pot. Sauté the mutton with the masala for 5-7 minutes.

  2. Add water and mix well.

  3. Cover and cook the mutton on low heat for 40-45 minutes, or until the mutton becomes tender and the curry thickens. You can also pressure cook for 3-4 whistles for faster cooking
